Data Acquisition System For Micro Hydro Electric Power Plant (2007)

Abstract:
-The Data Acquisition System for Micro Hydro Electric Power Plant (DAS) monitors important parameters of the power plant – the generated voltage ranging from 0-270V, current rating of up to 100A, as well as the rainfall frequency and intensity, which can reach up to 300 mm in height and the change in frequency for every change in load. These parameters are measured by their respective circuits, namely, voltmeter, ammeter, and rain gauge circuit. The frequency is measured based on the voltage value, given that the frequency of the generator is proportional to its output voltage [1]. The DAS uses a microcontroller that processes the data coming from the input circuits. The output of the microcontroller is passed on to the LCD display (QTERM N-15) and simultaneously stored in the EEPROM circuit. The EEPROM circuit is sized so that it can handle a large amount of data that would average the variations in the abovementioned parameters for several days. The LCD display allows continuous monitoring of the power plant. The information stored in the EEPROM circuit is used to determine the viability of putting up new power plants in the vicinity of the existing or there is a need to increase the capacity of existing plants. The information can be viewed in a PC using a graphical user interface programmed using Visual Basic.
