The Chemical Engineering Society (ChEn)
Description
The Chemical Engineering Society (ChEn) is the exclusive accredited organization dedicated to Chemical Engineering students at De La Salle University-Manila (DLSU). Serving as a central hub for academic and professional development, the society represents DLSU’s Chemical Engineering program, which has achieved ABET accreditation, aligning it with international standards in Applied and Natural Sciences, Engineering, and Engineering Technology education. The program is recognized as a Center of Excellence by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) with its outstanding academic quality and leadership in engineering within the Philippines.
History:
Founded in 1951 as the Society of Chemical Engineers, renamed in 1971 to Chemical Engineering Society, and then adapting the acronym “ChEn” in 1972 to the Chemical Engineering Society (ChEn) is one of the oldest student organizations in De La Salle University, with the primary objective of providing services and activities designed to catalyze to the holistic development of the students as future chemical engineers, cultivating healthy academic relationships among its members, and developing the students’ potential in becoming effective and service-driven LaSallian leaders.
Vision:
Our vision for the organization and its members are to develop the full potential of the Lasallian Chemical Engineering students to be responsive to the issues in the university and society, deliver excellence in the industries as licensed chemical engineers, and be globally competitive in line with the mission and vision of the Department of Chemical Engineering.
Mission:
In accordance with the organization’s vision, its mission is to:
❖ Complement the department’s efforts in facilitating the development of well-rounded Lasallian Chemical Engineers;
❖ Highlight the role of Chemical Engineering profession in the industry;
❖ Elevate the standards of the organization towards excellence, and;
❖ Nurture the existing relationship among faculty, members, officers, and other organizations, and other technical staff.
Major Activities
1. Absolute Zero Absolute Zero is an immersive in-person trivia competition designed to test participants’ academic knowledge and expertise offering a wide range of topics in a friendly yet competitive environment. |

2. I Can Calcu! I Can Calcu! is a calculator workshop aimed to teach essential calculator techniques to ChE students that will be used across various Chemical Engineering courses. |

3. ChEn Talks: A Webinar Series ChEn Talks: A Webinar Series where different guest speakers in the field of engineering are provided with opportunities to share about their personal experiences and cutting-edge research. This event inspires growth and curiosity for the attendees to explore new perspectives on both personal and professional development. |

4. General Assembly The General Assembly is an event where members of the organization will gather to bond with one another through games, activities, and performances. It is also the avenue for the members to receive announcements from the organization. |

5. Incandescence Incandescence is an advocacy driven campaign focused on spreading awareness through various social media channels. The primary goal is to support the beneficiary organization. |

6. LibChen: ChE Resource Drive ChEn members are given accessibility on LibChEn: A Resource Drive, which is composed of different Chemical Engineering learning materials consolidated in an online drive to help them in their coursework. |

7. Search for the next Quizzer Search for the Next Quizzer assesses the knowledge and proficiency of ChE students in both ChE and general engineering courses, with the goal of selecting those students to represent DLSU in ChE quiz competitions. |

8. The Catalyst The Catalyst is a magazine that will serve as the official communication channel for ChEn as it will provide regular updates throughout the academic year. The Catalyst includes sub-activities, such as The Catalyst in Action, Humans of ChE, Birthday-Q, ChEn Student Services, and ChEn Tunes. |
