De La Salle University-Manila’s graduate studies in philosophy is an intellectually rewarding experience, offering prospective students the opportunity to delve into our curriculum’s famed eclecticism. Master of Arts in Philosophy
The Master of Arts in Philosophy Program is a master’s degree program under the academic track. It aims to provide a well-balanced approach to the study of philosophy in terms of the treatment of the discipline’s various branches and traditions. The program caters both to students who intend to pursue a teaching career in philosophy and therefore desire to intensify their knowledge of the basic areas of the discipline, and to students who intend to pursue other careers but who desire to explore and experience the vast intellectual horizon of the discipline and to learn the critical skills of philosophical analysis especially as they apply in the areas of decision-making, problem-solving, political advocacy, aesthetic appreciation, and ethical evaluation. Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy
The Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy Program is a doctoral degree program under the academic track. It aims to provide students who already have a master’s degree in philosophy or in any other related field with excellent opportunities to further expand and deepen their grasp of the crucial issues in philosophy with a view to developing a specialized focus, either in the context of tradition or in relation to recent trends in world philosophy. Eclectic and creative, the program provides a diverse curriculum of course offerings covering a wide range of philosophic concerns as seen from the perspectives of the various philosophical traditions. From Analytic Philosophy to Continental Philosophy, from Asian and Comparative Philosophy to the newly emerging Filipino philosophy, the program ensures that differing philosophical inclinations are given equal treatment. Straight Program—Master in Teaching Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy
The Straight Program—Master in Teaching Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy is designed for students who have finished a bachelor’s degree in philosophy or in any other field and would like to pursue a master’s degree and a doctoral degree in philosophy in a continuous and integrated manner. Among others, this allows the students to pursue both degrees with sustained focus. The program provides a diverse curriculum of course offerings covering a wide range of philosophic concerns as seen from the perspectives of the various philosophical traditions. From Analytic Philosophy to Continental Philosophy, from Asian and Comparative Philosophy to the newly emerging Filipino philosophy, the program ensures that differing philosophical inclinations are given equal treatment. Master in Teaching Philosophy
The Master in Teaching Philosophy is a master’s degree program under the professional track. It is primarily designed to equip students with a substantial knowledge of the basic areas of philosophy for effective teaching of philosophy courses in the senior high school and tertiary levels. It is awarded to students after they have finished 30 units of coursework and passed comprehensive examinations in three (3) areas of study. Link
