Dr. Jonathan R. Dungca is an associate professor of civil engineering department and the dean of the Gokongwei College of Engineering, De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines. His main areas of research are in geotechnical engineering and structural engineering. Assoc. Prof. Dungca received his BS Civil Engineering from Bulacan State University, MS in Civil Engineering with specialization in Structural Engineering from De La Salle University and Doctor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology. Before joining De La Salle University in 1998 as a part-time faculty member and in 1999 as a full-time professor, Dr. Dungca used to be one of the senior structural engineers of Proconult, Inc. and he has designed several bridges and interchanges in the Philippines. Access to education for Dr. Dungca became possible through scholarships from various organizations and government institutions. He received a scholarship from Tan Su Scholarship Foundations for his undergraduate course. For his masters degree, he received a full scholarship from Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and for his doctoral degree from the Monbukagakusho scholarship of Japan. Prior to his doctoral degree, he received a one year- long term research fellowship grant from Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) at Tokyo Institute of Technology. In 2007, he received another research fellowship grant from Nakajima Heiwa Foundation at Saitama University, Japan. Dr. Dungca received two Lasallian Excellence Awards- Student Search for Outstanding Teacher and three Gawad Lasalyano Awards – Outstanding student organization adviser. He was chosen by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) as one of the 50 Men and Women of Science in 2008 during the golden anniversary celebration of the department.
