My.Lasalle Portal

The Information Technology Services (ITS) Office conceptualized the Internet portal dubbed “My.Lasalle” https://my.dlsu.edu.ph, from a single idea – to give each De La Salle active e-mail account holder access to the University’s different information services anytime, anywhere. This portal is a one-stop system that enables an active account holder to avail of the different information services like course availability, course-section schedules, account balance information, campus calendar, campus news and events, monitoring of grades and e-mail using Outlook Web Access. In the future, students can also use this in building discussion boards. On the other hand, faculty members use the facility to access records in faculty evaluation and grades recording/monitoring/submission, to build mailing lists of classes handled, and to communicate with students.

On-line Enlistment and Enrollment

De La Salle University (DLSU) is the first university in the Philippines to offer on-line enrolment to its students. All DLSU students, except freshmen, returnees and transferees, can now enroll via the enhanced My.Lasalle web page using their My.Lasalle account. After accomplishing the log-in page, the student can click the Enroll in Courses link and view the courses he/she can enroll for the succeeding term. If the student has accountabilities, he/she will know which office to go to. If he/she is cleared in all offices, a listing of courses that can be taken up by the student will be displayed. The student can then choose the courses he/she would like to enrol in.

More Ports

To further encourage De La Salle students and faculty members to use their computers and access information services via the campus network and the Internet, the Information Technology Services (ITS) Office installed more network access ports and upgraded the network bandwidth.

There are now more than 400 network access ports all over the campus, excluding those located in conference and faculty rooms. With these ports, students and faculty may hook to the Internet anytime.

DLSU WISe

ITS’s Wireless Information Services (WISe), in cooperation with Globe Telecom and Smart Communications, continues to utilize Short Message Service (SMS), popularly known as text messaging. The system named DLSU Wireless Information Services (DLSU WISe) allows students to inquire about official school announcements, check the availability and schedule of a course-section they wish to enroll in, and to access emergency hotline numbers, among others.

eNewsletter

Another wireless information service DLSU offers is the online edition of the DLSU Newsletter. This service allows viewing final exam and course card distribution schedules in one’s personal digital assistant equipped with the software AvantGo.

IT in Education

The Center for Educational Multimedia (CREM) was established to exercise leadership in the effective integration of multimedia applications in education. In conducts faculty in-service training workshops designed to develop teacher’s production of innovative instructional media. It also designs, directs and manages production of educational multimedia. In one of its programs where participants are aimed to develop, build and manage an online course for an entire team’s work, CREM uses the Integrated Virtual Learning Environment (IVLE).

In this program, the participants learn how to put their interactive learning resources online (from readings to Powerpoint presentations and other Web-based resources), hold chat sessions, conduct assessment, post a calendar of activities and other announcements, and monitor student performance and participation.

An e-classroom was constructed to provide the students with hands-on multimedia courses experience on the latest multimedia technology. This classroom is set with video conferencing equipment, audio-visual equipment, 42 computer units and multimedia projectors.

The Graduate School of Business (GSB) of the De La Salle-Professional Schools, Inc., implemented the MBA Online program in order to give a convenient option for the technology-literate and self-propelled learner. The program uses the WebCT platform, the leading online learning system in higher education today.

Library Portal

The DLSU University System (DLSU-System) Philippine University Library Search Engine (PULSE) is a web-based system that allows searching of the library holdings of several universities in the Philippines. PULSE allows users to enter a search string, choose a search category, and select a particular library or certain libraries where they want to do the search. PULSE also carries a standard look for the search results despite the differences in the library systems being operated by the different university libraries.

ePurse

On August 11, 2003, De La Salle University started to offer ePurse services to all full-time students of both DLSU-Manila and DLSU-PSI. Students may enjoy the benefits of electronic/cashless payments for small purchases within the campus.
A P100.00 initial deposit is needed to activate the ePurse service. At the moment, this service can be used for transactions with the Office of the University Registrar and the Accounting Office. Eventually, other offices within the University will accept ePurse transactions.

Scannable, Online and Downloadable Forms

The Institutional Testing and Evaluation Office (ITEO) has been using scannable forms for freshmen entrance exams and as faculty evaluation instruments. Student medical/dental record forms, and midterm/final/long exams are also scannable. Currently, online forms are used for course registration, in conducting surveys/gathering feedback on the content and overall appearance of the DLSU web sites, and as internal office tools.

Prospective students such as college freshmen and graduate studies applicants who live far from the University and have Internet access can now fill out downloadable forms in the web.

Student and Faculty IDs

During the School Year 2003-2004, all University personnel and student first used digital ID cards equipped with smart chips which replaced bar-coded ID cards. In addition to visual and barcode identification, the cards can store data and facilitate payment for internal DLSU transactions.
The ID cards also serve as library cards for use in monitoring, borrowing and returning library materials.

Intranet

The DLSU Intranet serves as the threshold of University policies and procedures, master lists, class lists, guides, course syllabi, minutes of meetings, statistics and downloadable forms so that users need not keep multiple copies of these important documents.

Wireless Fidelity

The wireless fidelity (wi-fi) network, allows active MLS account holders to connect laptops to the network wirelessly and stay mobile. In the DLSU-Manila campus, a laptop with a wireless network card and an operating system (OS) with the proper network configuration can connect to more than 30 hotspots. The Graduate School of Business (GSB) at the RCBC Plaza uses AirConnect wireless Local Area Network (LAN).

Multimedia Content

Streaming videos show a glimpse into the life of a Lasallian student. These showcase on-the-job (OJT) training programs, state-of-the-art facilities, and the prestigious faculty and alumni roster.

Oracle Financials

This Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is currently used by the Accounting, Purchasing, and Warehouse Offices. This system handles the automation of various operations within the University.
