Career Orientation for DLSU-OBB Grade 9 Scholars
Operation Big Brother (OBB), the adopt-a-school program under the Br. Andrew Gonzalez FSC College of Education (BAGCED), conducted a career orientation last November 23, 2019. The event was entitled “Sulyap: Career Orientation” and was attended by 376 Grade 9 students from 10 partner public schools in Metro Manila. These schools include Cayetano Arellano High School, Florentino Torres High School, Gregorio Perfecto High School, Jose P. Laurel High School, Manuel Araullo High School, Mandaluyong High School, Manuel Roxas High School, Manila Science High School, Ramon Magsaysay High School, and Victorino Mapa High School.
The students were welcomed and taken through a campus tour by the Lasallian Ambassadors (Lambs). This was followed by a plenary session at the 4th floor of Henry Sy Sr. Hall. The program director of the OBB, Dr. Christine Joy Ballada, gave the welcoming remarks and set the expectations for the day’s event. This was immediately followed by a workshop by Mr. Jan Christian Pastor, a MALT student from the Counseling and Educational Psychology Department of BAGCED, entitled “Career and Life Decision Making”. Afterwards, Ms. Remedios Moog, a University Counselor, talked about “Finding your Future: Career Decision Making”.
For the afternoon sessions, students were grouped according to the academic strands they were interested in pursuing. The first part was entitled “Different Career Tracks: View from the Academe, Alumni and the Professional”. Associate Deans from the different colleges in DLSU were invited to talk about their field and the possible career options the students have under their track. The speakers also discussed the programs offered in the university. The session was concluded with testimonies from several OBB alumni, three of whom are current students of DLSU and another three who are already professionals in various fields.
