The Catholic Church in the Philippines is most visibly represented by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), which is noted to have strengthened its political involvement since the EDSA Revolution of 1986. Structural Justice and Collective Responsibility offers a systematic critique of the organization’s 21st-century sociopolitical discourses using as a perspective the theory of structural justice and collective responsibility of the North American philosopher, political theorist, feminist writer, and activist Iris Marion Young (1949–2006). The overarching intention of this book is to show how the CBCP can further strengthen its political and social engagements with the Philippine society by proactively leading the country in minimizing current structural injustices and inequalities through a more systematic marshalling of its tremendous organizational and human resources.
