SOCIAL SCIENCE
The monograph is about the effects of international migration and remittances on household incomes and well-being, human capital investment, and regional development in the Philippines. The study reviews the international and local literature on the consequences, including psycho-social costs, of migration, and discusses remittances in relation to domestic incomes and poverty reduction. The discourse is enhanced with econometric analysis that extends to investment in human capital, workforce participation saving, and sub-national development in the country. The study concludes with a summary and policy implications.
Ernesto M. Pernia is professor emeritus of economics, Elena E. Pernia is professor of communication, Jackson L. Ubias is senior lecturer of economics, and Maria Rosel S. San Pascual is assistant professor of communication—all at the University of the Philippines Diliman.
