Curiosity is a defining point of convergence among scientists. In celebration of the 15th year of the publication of Manila Journal and Science published by De La Salle University, the book Convergence and Possibilities presents works done by scientists who began their profession and have lived their vocation with the excitement and rigor of whys, hows, and what ifs.
The book includes contributions from University Fellows of De La Salle University who are widely recognized academics in their respective fields and leading lights in the scientific community at large. Among these luminaries are Professor Emeritus Severino Gervacio, DLSU Chancellor and synthetic organic chemist Gerardo Janairo, Manila Journal of Science’s current editor-in-chief and microbiologist Esperanza Cabrera, world renowned natural products chemist Consolacion Ragasa, and former DLSU College of Science dean and mathematician Arlene Pascasio.
JOSE ISAGANI B. JANAIRO is Associate Professor of Biology and Research Fellow at De La Salle University where he also serves as the co-editor-in-chief of the Manila Journal of Science. Trained as a biochemist, his research has been a convergence of biology, chemistry, and material science by using biological methods to create functional nanomaterials. His works in the field of bionanotechnology were featured as one of the cover articles for the Royal Society of Chemistry’s journal Chemical Communications. His academic involvement and research contributions have been widely recognized by the Chemical Society of Japan, the Japanese Biochemical Society, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, the Frontier Chemistry Center of Hokkaido University, the Clark Memorial Foundation, and the ASEAN.
