Job Description/Summary
The Instrumentation Specialist is responsible for the comprehensive management and operation of the Chemistry Instrumentation Room, a core facility supporting both instructional laboratories and faculty/student research at the Department of Chemistry. This role ensures all instruments are maintained, calibrated, and in optimal working condition. The incumbent provides critical technical training and support to a diverse group of users, enforces laboratory safety protocols, assists in budget preparation, and coordinates laboratory improvements. This position is essential for the smooth, safe, and effective functioning of the department’s teaching and research missions.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Technology, or a closely related field.
- PRC License as a Chemist.
- Training or certification in Laboratory Safety, CATO, ISO 17025, or specific instrument operation.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in operating and maintaining chemical instrumentation.
- Experience providing functional supervision or technical guidance to students and laboratory personnel is preferred.
- Advanced hands-on skills in troubleshooting and maintaining chemical instrumentation (e.g., HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, FT-IR).
- Strong understanding of laboratory safety protocols and chemical handling.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications for documentation and report generation.
