Background
Biomedical Engineering is now recognized as one of the fastest-growing fields in the country and the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) has been supporting initiatives on developing safe, affordable, innovative local technologies. Currently, the Council has funded more than ten technologies from proof of concept up to commercialization activities, particularly in the area of prosthetics, respiratory support systems, rehabilitation devices, and minimally invasive surgical equipment. These innovations are also aligned with the priority areas identified by the National Unified Health Research Agenda (NUHRA).
To highlight the abovementioned initiatives, PNBMEC was conceived to bring together various stakeholders, experts in the fields of engineering and medical sciences, industry partners, government agency representatives and solution providers to share knowledge and encourage discussions on the latest developments including emerging challenges faced in the advancement of the Biomedical Engineering sector, specifically at the local setting.
Objectives
- To provide a venue for information exchange between researchers and experts in the field of biomedical engineering;
- To showcase latest technologies developed locally by research partners;
- To identify possible areas of collaboration between the research community, industry and other stakeholders; and
- To recommend strategies to initiate a research-based biomedical industry in the country
Expected Output
- Streamline processes on biomedical research based from the learnings from the conference
- Develop research partnerships.
