Double-Degree Program with the University of Arizona
A primer
DLSU AB-CAM students may earn a second degree — Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television Production — from the University of Arizona within the same four years and for about a 20th of the cost of doing the same program in Tucson.*
Who may apply?
For the first intake, DLSU AB-CAM students who began majoring in T1 2019-2020 and who have a 2.5 CGPA upon application to the program, PROVIDED they are not U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, U.S. permanent residents, or otherwise eligible for U.S. federal student financial aid.
When do applications begin (and end)?
T2 2019-2020.
How long will the program run?
Five DLSU trimesters, beginning T1 2020-21 and ending T2 2021-2022, and so on. During this period double-degree students will take 10 courses (30 units) from the University of Arizona BFA FTV curriculum.
What are these 10 courses?
- FTV 100A – Film & TV History From the Beginning to the Mid-20th Century
- FTV 100B – Film & TV History Mid-20th Century to the Present
- FTV 200 – Film & TV Aesthetics (for crediting as CAMELE1)
- FTV 270 – Introduction to Film & TV Industries (for crediting as MINOR01)
- FTV 365 – Theory and Representation in Film and TV (for crediting as CAMMEDS)
- FTV 370 – U.S. Film & TV Now (for crediting as MINOR02)
- History Elective (FTV 309 – History of the Documentary; for crediting as CAMRESP)
- Producing Elective (FTV 479 – International Film and TV Business; for crediting as MINOR03)
- Production Elective (FTV 318 – Editing Fundamentals; for crediting as CAMELE2)

Double-degree students don’t have to take CAMMEDS and CAMRESP, as well as two of their major electives and all of their minors.
Will there be additional courses?
Yes, the University of Arizona requires nine units of natural-science courses (non-laboratory) and six units of English composition, for a total of 15.
Further, double-degree candidates will take the SAS 102 (“Becoming a Global Wildcat**”) and SAS 103 (“Succeeding as a Global Professional”) which will not involve any tuition. They are are similar to DLSU’s LCLSONE (“Lasallian Studies”).
Where will the courses be taught?
Following the University of Arizona’s microcampus model, all classes will be conducted at DLSU and co-taught by faculty from both universities. University of Arizona faculty will not be physically present although there may be occasional visits.
The science courses will be taught by the College of Science, while the composition classes by the Department of English and Applied Linguistics.
How much will the second degree cost?
$11,000, plus the cost of the additional 15 units at the DLSU rate. Compare that with $12,600 that Arizona residents who will enter the University of Arizona as freshmen in 2020-2021 will pay in tuition alone, a year for four years. For non-residents, it is $36,600 tuition; other expenses add up to $54,500 a year.
The tuition will cover electronic access to the University of Arizona libraries, the D2L learning management system (it’s Canvas at DLSU), MS Office and Adobe Creative Cloud, but not textbooks.
What’s the minimum class size?
25.
How many diplomas will the double-degree student receive?
Two. One from DLSU, the other from the University of Arizona. The University of Arizona diploma will be the same document issued to all graduates of that institution of higher learning, regardless of campus.
Are there other similar programs offered by the University of Arizona at DLSU?
So far, the BFA-FTV double-degree program is the first program addendum to a Global Location Agreement signed in April 2019 by the Presidents of DLSU and the University of Arizona.
Are there other similar programs offered by the University of Arizona elsewhere?
The University of Arizona has nine other microcampuses in South America, the Middle East and Asia.
How does one apply?
First, to the University of Arizona. Next, to the College of Fine Arts. You will be required three essays, a 2.5 GPA and a recommendation letter. (We are awaiting final instructions from the University of Arizona.)
* Non-Arizona residents pay $54,500 a year, or $218,000 for four years. $11,000 will not even cover in-state tuition for one year.
** The Wildcat is to the University of Arizona as the Green Archer is to DLSU.
