Professional Profile:
It was in Academic Year 2006-2007 that I was conferred the title University Fellow of De la Salle University. During this time, I was serving as the National Research Institute Representative of the SIDA funded R and D program, Asian Regional Research Program on Environmental Technology (ARRPET) on Industrial Hazardous Waste Management. ARRPET is the longest running R and D program of the University (2001-2008). This program was followed by more projects and program like the Asia Swedish Partnership Program (2004-2006) and SDCC-AIT/France Network(2011-2013). Being the Research Institute on Industrial Hazardous Waste Management, ARRPET-DLSU was endorsed by the Environment Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources as implementor of the UNIDO funded Project(2011-2012) on the Review and Development of the National Implementation Plan on the Stockholm Convention of New POPs or Persistent Organic Pollutants. I was designated as the National Project Coordinator by EMB. On the following year, I became a consultant of AECOM on a WB project (2012-2013) on the Inventory of POPs Contaminated Sites in the Philippines. From 2005 to 2015, I was involved in the JICA funded program called AUNSEED net collaborative research. Aside from R and D, I was actively engaged in teaching and mentoring. Those projects produced several undergraduate and graduate (masteral and doctoral) students who worked and published their output in reputable journals and conference proceedings.
I was a recipient of awards from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science; the Swedish International Research and Development Agency(SIDA); the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST); the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), PICHE, PRB-CHE and PHILAAST. Most recently, I was listed in the 2020 Asian Scientists 100. I hold a patent for a water filtration system through the DLSU-IPO. I also have a utility model registration for a photocatalyst of titania with activated carbon through DOST TAPI. I’m also actively involved in community outreach programs related to solid waste management, water resources engineering, wastewater treatment and hazardous waste management.
Currently, I am a retired Professor of the Chemical Engineering Department. I’m actively involved in research and consultancy. I was the lead proponent of the project titled “Greening a Selected Community in the Philippines,” funded by URCO under the Retired Fellows Research Grant. I also serve PCIEERD DOST as a member of the Technical Panel on Environment. I was a past President/Board of Directors and now advisor of JAAP (JSPS Alumni Association of the Philippines). I’m currently a board member of FPAAA, USTCHEAA, and IAAMI. I’m also an advisor of ATTARS (Association of Tokyo Tech Alumni Association of the Philippines), and a member of PICHE-MMAC and AWMA-PS.
