Professional Profile:

I was introduced to De La Salle University by Dr. Emerita Quito, who happened to be the aunt of my wife, Dreena Quito. Tita Emy mentioned that De La Salle University was looking for someone to develop a program in Communication Arts. Knowing that my wife and I just came back from the States after my master’s program in Radio-Television-Film under a Fulbright Scholarship in 1972-1974, Tita Emy introduced me to Br. Andrew who was the Academic Vice-President then. After that opportune meeting, the rest is history.

I have been with De La Salle University for forty years. I am a Professor Emeritus and a University Fellow. Aside from academic work, I’ve also engaged in filmmaking. Some of my screenplay credits are Maynila… Sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag (Manila… In the Claws of Light), Mulanay, Aliwan Paradise, Pepot Artista, Paglipad ng Anghel (Flight of an Angel), and my collaboration with Mike de Leon in films like Kakabakaba Ka Ba?, Batch ’81, Kisapmata, and Bayaning 3rd World.

I have also directed documentaries, including Maid in Singapore and Tinitingnan, ‘Di Nakikita on urban poverty. In 2005, I directed Pepot Artista, Best Picture in the 1st Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival. In 2011, I made my second full-length feature film, Paglipad ng Anghel, which was produced by De La Salle University.

I owe my filmmaking career to De La Salle University. It would not have been possible without its support and continued encouragement.
