Ms. Ethel Chua-Joy Ong is an Assistant Professor of the College of Computer Studies (CCS) of De La Salle University-Manila. She served as the Chair of the Software Technology Department of CCS where she managed the BS and MS in Computer Science degree programs. She works as a researcher in the Center for Language Technologies, a research laboratory at CCS devoted to building computer systems that have the capabilities to analyze, understand, process, and generate natural language text. Working towards her dissertation in the area of computational creativity and narrative generation, she leads a research team in developing Picture Books, a series of software systems capable of engaging children in interactive storytelling. Recently, she is exploring the integration of storytelling capabilities to affective virtual agents to enable them to provide more natural interaction with children in computer-based learning environments. She has published works on text generation, story generation, semantic representation of storytelling knowledge, and affective dialogue generation.
