YU, DERRICK ETHELBHERT C.
Dr. Derrick Yu is a Full Professor of Chemistry and the University Registrar of De La Salle University (DLSU), Manila, Philippines. His chemistry background includes bachelor's and master's degrees from DLSU; doctorate (specialization: materials/solid-state chemistry) from Hokkaido University (Japan); and in the past years, as visiting scientist at the Institute for Solid State Physics of the University of Tokyo (2005-2007) and in the Faculty of Science of Hokkaido University (2010-2015). His research are mainly on molecular engineering of phthalocyanine complexes for various applications - i.e. multifunctional organic conductors for I.T. materials; photocatalysts for degrading organic air pollutants; and as sensitizers/activators in photo-electro-magnetodynamic cancer therapy. His recognitions include "New Talent Asia 2011" from the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) and "Outstanding Young Scientist 2012" from the National Academy of Science and Technology (Philippines). Dr. Yu is the founding head of the DLSU Materials Science and Nanotechnology Unit, and likewise the founder of the Philippine Society of Materials and Nanotechnology and the founding managing editor of the Philippine Journal Materials Science and Nanotechnology. Internationally, he represents the Philippines in the board of the Society of Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines based in Dijon, France, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC). Dr. Yu also completed "University Leadership and Management Program" in University of Oldenburg (Germany) and "Top Management Program" in Asian Institute of Management.
