SDRC Annual Workshop Held in Nasugbu
The Director and core staff of the Social Development Research Center held their annual workshop and teambuilding activity on April 26 and 27 at the Canyon Cove Resort in Piloto Wawa, Nasugbu, Batangas. During the activity, Center Director Dr. Dennis Trinidad summarized SDRC’s accomplishments for the year, foremost being the efforts pursued toward promoting collaborative and interdisciplinary studies, and toward making the Center’s publications accessible to scholars. He also cited its successes in conducting a panel discussion on the Reproductive Health Bill, conferring awards of recognition on outstanding past project directors during the Center’s 33rd anniversary program, hosting a roundtable discussion on Research at DLSU, and hiring a new research associate as the initial move in recruiting more full-time researchers.
Dr. Trinidad also announced the Center’s goals for the upcoming school year, which will involve the establishment of more formal institution-based relationships between the Director and the Research Fellows. In line with this, new mechanisms for conferring the title of “Research Fellow” will be introduced, and invitations will be sent to members of the current research clusters identified by the Center.
In addition, Dr. Trinidad asked the core staff to assist him in fulfilling the goal of creating a research culture at the Center by providing an enabling environment for the Research Fellows in their scholarly pursuits. Support activities such as the conduct of training seminars, engaging of graduate students in drafting proposals, and deloading schemes for project directors will also be proposed.
Prior to the workshop the group paid a visit to the Tahanan ni Maria Home for the Aged Foundation, Inc. in Barangay Lantic, Carmona, Cavite. As an outreach component of the Center’s 33rd anniversary, token gifts were distributed among the residents of the compound. Tahanan is a non-profit non-stock charitable organization whose vision and mission is to serve the elderly, and is committed to provide their basic needs for food, clothing, shelter, and health care.
