Integrated Electron Microscopy Laboratory

The DLSU IEM Laboratory is a full-service laboratory offered by the Central Instrumentation Facility under the office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation. The facility operates a  resolution Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) with  Energy Dispersive X- ray Spectrometer ( EDS) at Dr. George Ty Central Instrumentation Facility at DLSU Laguna Campus in Binan, Laguna.

The facility offers TEM imaging as well as other modes of analysis  using TEM. IEM accepts samples not only from DLSU researchers but also from outside clients (academe, government, and industry) for a fee.

  1. The  TEM can provide  high resolution imaging of solid-state materials and can provide the following imaging modes :
    • TEM  imaging with point lattice identification
    • Scanning Transmission Electron Microscope mode with Dark Field and Bright Field Images (STEM, BF and DF).
    • Nano Beam Diffraction of Crystal structure ( NBD)
    • Selected Area Apertures Electron Diffraction (SAED)
    • High Angle Annular Dark Field Imaging ( HAADF).
    • EDS with mapping, line and point analysis.

STEP 1. Sen your query  to [email protected] , indicate your name and institution.

STEP 2.  A from will be sent out to you, please fill it out.  OR you may download from this site. Please fill out the form completely with all the details. INCOMPLETE FORM WILL NOT BE PROCESSED.   Read the Notes, Terms and Conditions carefully in the TRF form. You may address any queries  in the email provided in STEP1.

STEP 3. Once the form has been received a quotation will be sent to you based on the number of samples and images, as well as other services you indicated in the TRF form.  Pay the corresponding fee to the following address:

STEP 5. Images and analysis will be sent online. Data  and samples will be kept as stated in the TRF form.

What is the maximum size of sample that can accommodated ?

Ans. Your samples should be less than 100nm  for TEM imaging to work.

Can you accommodate liquid samples ?

Ans.  NO.  We cannot because of the vacuum nature of the TEM chamber,  only solid samples. However, the non-

volatile residue of the liquid ( dried ) can be analyzed.

Do you provide analysis report ?

Ans. Yes, we do at an ADDITIONAL FEE.

What is the average  turn-around time (TAT)  for  SEM-EDS ?

Ans. The turn-around  is 2 weeks  +, depending on the number of samples and the volume of job order in the laboratory.

Do you offer rush analysis?

Ans. NO.

Can we submit live specimen?

Ans. NO. You cannot submit a live specimen; it has to be inanimate.  It had to be dried and only the region or portion of the samples must be submitted for microtome preparation.

Do you accept purchase order  (PO) , JO or WO  and terms of payment?

Ans. NO we do not accept PO,JO or WO  payment terms and other modes as of this time. we only accept through

cash / cheque ONLY  deposit at the moment.

Do you accommodate and test samples on weekends and holidays ?

Ans. NO, we do not accept samples during weekends or holidays. Operating  days is Mon to Fri ( 8am to 5pm).

Do you accommodate visitors in the IEM lab ?

Ans.  Due to the current pandemic situation, lab visits are restricted.
