Sample Preparation Laboratory

The Sample Preparation Laboratory under the Central Instrumentation Facility comprises equipment used to support the activities and analyses of the other CIF laboratories.

Instruments

The CIF Sample Preparation equipment are housed in the following CIF laboratories:

General Laboratory

  1. ELGA Veolia Type 1 Water Purification System
  2. IKA RV 10 digital Rotary Evaporator
  3. DLAB D2012 plus High Speed Mini Centrifuge
  4. Jenco 6175 benchtop pH meter
  5. Eureka Auto Drybox
  6. Memmert UN110 Universal Oven
  7. Oster Blender 4172
  8. Shimadzu AUW220D Semi-micro Analytical Balance
  9. Shimadzu ATY224 Analytical Balance
  10. PHILAB Industries FH1500(X) and FH1000(X) Fume Hood
  11. Branson 3800 CPXM Sonicator Bath
  12. QSonica Ultrasonicator Probe Q700

IEM Laboratory

  1. JEC3000FC Magnetron type sputter coater- Pt coating of non conductive samples for SEM.
  2. Leica  Ultramicrotome and glass knife maker-  for biological sample preparations of thin lamella sheets for TEM imaging
  3. Micro manipulator  (Micro support AXIS PRO model)- for atmospheric pick up of lamella prepared by Focused Ion Beam. 
  4. JII 29080 DMS Dry Pumping Multiport TEM sample station for protection of sensitive samples  prior TEM imaging. 
  5. Centrifuge ( 4000rpm), micro balance (800g max, 0.01g resolution) Tube rotator (40 rpm),curing  oven, Hot plate stirrer, 45X optical stereo scope and Fume hood  are installed in the sample preparation lab for various biological specimen TEM  preparation.
