Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer

The DLSU Spectroscopy Laboratory is a full-service laboratory of the Central Instrumentation Facility under the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation. One of the instruments that the laboratory operates is the Shimadzu Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer – 2030LF (ICPMS – 2030LF). The instrument is located in Room 205A Dr. George S. K. Ty Central Instrumentation Facility at DLSU Laguna Campus in Binan, Laguna.

The facility offers Analytical Services using ICP MS and accepts samples not only from DLSU researchers but also from outside clients (academe, government, and industry) for a fee (please see the schedule of fees).

Shimadzu ICPMS-2030 LF:

  • Plasma ion source: Sample spray chamber: Cyclone chamber (electronically cooled)
  • Plasma Torch: Mini torch
  • Nebulizer: Coaxial
  • High-frequency power supply unit: 27 MHz, max. 1.4 kW
  • Mass spectrometer unit: Quadrupole mass spectrometer
  • Mass number range: 5 to 260 mass number range, octopole collision cell
  • Equipped with AS-10 Autosampler which allows multiple samples to be analyzed successively

Available Measurement Mode:

1.Qualitative Analysis

  1. Quantitative Analysis

The DLSU Spectroscopy Laboratory offers the following services:

  • Simultaneous trace level analysis of multiple elements
  • Environmental, Drinking Water, and Wastewater Analysis

ICP MS analysis is charged per sample.  Each sample can be analyzed for up to 3 trials each, while sample replicates (in a separate container)  and standards are charged as individual samples each. The fees are inclusive of sample analysis only. Reagents, standards, solvents, and sample preparation must be provided/shouldered/performed by the client.

  1. It is recommended that solid samples must undergo microwave-assisted digestion using ultrapure acids to prevent contamination.
  2. Ensure that all the apparatus used for sample preparation are clean and free from contaminants. Once the samples are properly prepared, filter the samples to remove other particulates.
  3. Label the samples properly and wrap them securely to prevent them from spilling. Wrap light-sensitive samples in aluminum foil or place them in amber bottles.
  4. For samples requiring a specific temperature for storage, ensure to store them in iceboxes and label them with temperature requirements and add a “fragile” mark when necessary.
  5. Pack the samples carefully for transport.
  6. Submit the sample to DLSU for analysis. Please click here on instructions on how to submit the samples.

STEP 1. Send your inquiries to [email protected], indicate your name and institution. To serve you better, we request a conference/discussion with you to help you determine the appropriate experiments to achieve your objectives.

STEP 2. Once the discussion has been finalized, the ICPMS Analysis Form will be sent out to the email address you used or you may download the form here. Kindly fill out the form completely with all the details (one form for EACH SAMPLE). INCOMPLETE FORMS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED. Carefully read the Terms and Conditions indicated on the sample analysis form. For questions regarding the form, send an email to  [email protected].

STEP 3. Prepare the samples. Ensure that the requirements for the preparation of samples for ICPMS analysis are met.

STEP 4. Submit the analysis form together with the sample. Alternatively, electronic submission of forms can be accommodated through email.

STEP 5. A confirmation email will be sent to you once the form(s) have been received and checked. A quotation will be sent to you depending on the number of samples.

STEP 6. Once the form has been received, a quotation will be sent to you based on the number of samples and analysis you indicated in the ICPMS Analysis form.  Pay the corresponding fee to the following address:

Bank: Metrobank
Branch: LTI-Binan Laguna Branch
Account name: De La Salle University
Account # : 609-3-609-00167-7

You can pay in cash or cheque.

Send the photo or scanned copy of the payment confirmation slip to [email protected] and copy [email protected].

STEP 7. Once payment has been confirmed, you may send the samples via courier to the address below.

NOTE:  Samples will NOT BE PROCESSED  UNLESS COMPLETE PAYMENT IS DONE
