Chromatography Laboratory

The DLSU Chromatography laboratory is a full-service laboratory offered by the Central Instrumentation Facility under the office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation.

This laboratory operates an Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatography-Quadrupole Time-of-Flight (UHPLC-QTOF or UHPLC-QTOFMS), Analytical High Performance Liquid Chromatography/Gel Permeation Chromatography with Multiple Detector System (HPLC/GPC with MDS), Semi-Preparative High Performance Liquid Chromatography (Semi-Prep HPLC), and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS).

It is located at room GT 205 at the George SK Ty Central Instrumentation Facility at the DLSU Laguna Campus in Biñan City, Laguna.

The facility offers these analytical services and accepts samples from DLSU researchers and outside clients (academe, government, and industry) with reasonable fees.

Agilent 1260 Infinity II UHPLC:

  • Multiple samples in single run
  • Column temperature control: 5 °C above ambient temperature to 80 °C
  • Can withhold pressures of up to 800 bar
  • Flow rate of 0.1 mL/min to 5 mL/min

Agilent 6530 QTOF:

  • Mass accuracy of within 2 ppm
  • Can detect low-level components and simultaneous measurement of minor components in the presence of intense background interferences.
  • Tandem MS capability provides structural information based on fragmentation patterns for MS/MS spectral matching (where available) or structure elucidation.

UHPLC-QTOF

Agilent 1260 Infinity II Analytical HPLC/GPC:

  • Can analyze multiple samples in a single run
  • Column temperature control: 5 °C above ambient temperature to 80°C
  • Can withstand pressures of up to 400 bar
  • Flow rate: 0.2 mL/min to 10.0 mL/min.

Available Detectors:

  1. Variable Wavelength Detector (VWD): Single and dual-wavelength mode (190 nm to 600 nm).
  2. Refractive Index Detector (RID): Temperature control from 5°C to 55°C. Enables analysis for non-UV absorbing substances such as carbohydrates, lipids, and polymers.
  3. Multi-detector System (Light Scattering and Viscometer): Temperature control from 30 °C to 60 °C. Can measure low molecular weight down to 100s. Utilizing LS detection with PLgel columns no longer requires column calibration which gives good results on true polymer molecular weight, size, shape, and long-chain branching. Triple detection (MDS combined with RID) allows the determination of absolute molecular weights and solution behavior.

HPLC/GPC

Chromatography Lab analysis is charged per hour starting from instrument conditioning up to the analysis, and washing/cool down. The fees are inclusive of sample analysis and raw data (pdf/raw file) only. Standards, solvents, columns, and sample preparation consumables and reagents must be provided/shouldered by the client
