Overview
History
De La Salle University was established in 1911, and its ROTC unit in 1936, shortly after the ratification of the Commonwealth Act Nr. 1 or commonly known as the National Defense Act. During the Second World War, 
the DLSU ROTC graduates formed a part of the reservist forces, as many were massacred including civilian families and most notably the 16 Lasallian Brothers inside the campus on 12 February 1945. Later on, the DLSU ROTC Unit was formally organized then redesignated on February 1952, having its first Commandant, LT JOSE M VASQUEZ PN.
The traditional semestral academic system was used until the School Year 1995 – 1996, wherein the Expanded ROTC Program was implemented and male students were required to take up two (2) years of ROTC. However, this didn’t last until the National Service Training Program (NSTP) was established in 2001, wherein the students had the choice to join the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) instead of ROTC, and complete either for only two (2) semesters/ terms.
De La Salle University has a rich history in the rudiments of ROTC training. In its seventy-nine (79) years of existence, the DLSU ROTC has been invigorating its name by producing outstanding reservists for our country’s armed forces while greatly contributing in both the civilian and military sectors. 
Even until the implementation of the National Service Training Program (NSTP) in 2001 where the ROTC program was made optional, the DLSU ROTC has kept its prestige and excellence as a distinct reserve unit of the Philippine Navy and an organization in the university. 
During the decade, the DLSU ROTC Unit was adjudged numerous times as the “Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine Navy ROTC Unit of the Year”, “National Annual General Tactical Inspection (NAGTI) Over-all Champion”, and “Local Annual General Tactical Inspection (LAGTI) Over-all Champion”. In addition to this, many of its cadet officers were awarded by the President of the Republic of the Philippines as the “Armed Forces of the Philippines and Naval Reserve Command Cadet/Cadette of the Year” – a big manifestation that Lasallians can also perform excellently in the fields of military student leadership.
The DLSU ROTC has also conducted hundreds of socio-civic and humanitarian activities such as relief operations, bloodletting activities, coastal clean ups, feeding programs, tree planting, gift giving activities, educational tutorials, medical missions, house building activities; and facilitates various trainings such as first aid, traditional martial arts, disaster preparedness, and rescue operations to enrich the holistic development of the students.
The unit trains Lasallian students in the core values of Discipline, Loyalty, Service, and Unity (DLSU), as it reiterates that ROTC training is an essential, meaningful, and beneficial part of nation building. Hence, our mission is not only to produce capable naval reservists, but also build character among the Filipino youth. To develop their patriotism and to hone their character and personalities; training them to become more confident, more active, and more involved, for their personal and professional development as citizens of our country; and practice their ultimate goal to become Lasallian achievers for God and Country.
Mission
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Mission
The Armed Forces of the Philippines is the protector of the people and the State. Its goal is to secure the sovereignty of the State and the integrity of National Territory.
Philippine Navy (PN) Mission
To conduct prompt and sustained naval and maritime operations to accomplish the AFP Mission.
Naval Reserve Command (NAVRESCOM) Mission
To organize, equip and administer naval reservists in order to provide the Philippine Navy the base for expansion in the event of war, invasion, rebellion or disaster/calamities and to assist in the socio-economic development of the country.
247th NROTCU Mission
To train and develop college students in the rudiments of military service and produce capable AFP reservists.
