De La Salle University releases its first Sustainability Report

Sustainability reporting is an important aspect in every organization. It enables an organization to determine how they tackle sustainability issues. It also shows how an organization manages sustainability-related impacts and risks.

A sustainability report must be transparent, accurate, authentic and thorough. It also must contain the organization’s mission-vision and commitment to

sustainability. It must conform to internationally accepted standards. One of which is the GRI or Global Reporting Initiative. GRI was created as a common language for organizations to have a consistent and credible reporting of their sustainability impacts. The Securities and Exchange Commission is requiring Publicly Listed Companies to submit a Sustainability Report annually. De La Salle University as a non-profit organization, is not covered by this requirement.

As De La Salle University comes out with the 2017-2019 Sustainability Report, the university has sought the help and cooperation of offices and units crucial in making it. Some of the highlights of the Sustainability Report are Message of the President and the Chancellor touching on how the new Vision-Mission came about with the call of Pope Francis with his 2015 Laudato Si’, Sustainability Policy and Agenda, People Behind the Policy, Green Campus, Carbon Neutrality Project, Best Practices, Formation for Sustainable Development in terms of Curriculum and Research and other matters that various centers and institutions of De La Salle University do as part of its contribution to sustainability.

With the 2017-2019 Sustainability report, De La Salle University aims to move forward to a cleaner and greener university. The university’s programs and policies will be geared towards the attainment of this goal.

De La Salle University has created the Sustainability Report covering 2017 to 2019 on a voluntary basis and attuned to the Global Reporting Initiative. De La Salle University intends to publish a Sustainability Report every two years.
