Ban of Single Use Plastics (SUPs) on Campus

Responding to Pope Fancis’ call to care for our common home (Laudato Si),  DLSU has developed numerous policies and programs as part of its commitment to be attuned to a sustainable earth.  With the approval of the General Policy on Ecological Management of Solid Waste last year,  the “Ban of Single Use Plastics (SUPs) on Campus” will be implemented by Term 2 Academic Year 2020-2021 which starts on March 1, 2021.

The Chancellor has issued a memo on the banning of single use plastics via the Helpdesk Announcement last January 13, 2021.  As most of the campus operations are still on a work-from-home scheme and classes via online LMS platforms, regular reminders will be issued from time to time via HDA, the DLSU website as well as the various official social media platforms of the university (e.g. FB, Twitter, Instagram etc.).

Once the restricted campus access is lifted and face-to-face classes resume, both print (posters and tarps) as well as digital and online platforms on campus (Green Screen, HDAs and the website) will be utilized to further increase everyone’s awareness and participation.

The Campus Sustainability Office enjoins everyone not only on its effective implementation  but more importantly in protecting the environment by helping reduce the plastic wastes especially SUPs especially at home and eventually on campus and in their respective communities.  Small actions help save natural terrestrial habitats as well as aquatic and  marine environments from plastic pollution.
Thank you.
