About the award

The Lasallian Scholarum Awards (LSA) is De La Salle University’s flagship program that recognizes outstanding media coverage of Filipino youth and education issues by the national media and campus press. Spearheaded by the Strategic Communications Office in 2004, the LSA honors the zeal and dedication of the country’s journalists in their pursuit of truth. Amid the rise of social media and AI and in the fight vs. fake news, De La Salle University dedicates the LSA to them, in our shared mission to deliver stories that bring hope and spark change in our society.

About the logo

The logo is an adaptation of the rabat (pronounced ra-bah), the official collar worn by the La Salle Brothers. It is a tribute to St. John Baptist de La Salle, a French priest who started a ministry to educate the poor children of his time, more than 300 years ago.

St. La Salle’s initial foray into school administration and education ministry began with his helping the Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus, a congregation that provided education for poor and abandoned girls. It was in this school where he met Adrian Nyel, a lay person, who asked him to establish a free school for boys.

It was after that encounter that St. La Salle embarked on a lifelong educational advocacy. His deep compassion, creative spirit, and trust in God allowed him to introduce educational innovations that have since shaped the educational landscape across the world.
