Guidelines on Requests for Purchase of LCD Monitors

The President’s Council, in its meeting on August 22, 2008, approved the use of computer LCD monitors for offices, subject to the following:

  1. The standard LCD monitor specifications are as follows:

    Driving System : TFT Color LCD

    Size : 17.0″ W

    Contrast : 1000:1

    Video : RGB Analog Interface

    Display Colors : 16.2M Colors

    Native Resolutions : 17″ (Widescreen): 1280×800 (WXGA)

    Viewing Angle : 140 degrees (H) 130 degrees (V)

    Response Time : 8 ms

    Connector : DSUB-15 or VGA

  2. The LCD monitor will be the standard specification for all requests for the purchase of computer sets received by the Information Technology Center beginning Term 2, SY 2008-2009. The brand of the LCD monitor will depend on the brand of the computer system unit.
  3. Requests to upgrade from CRT monitors to LCD should be accompanied by a written justification attached to the Materials Requisition Form (MRF). Such requests are subject to the evaluation, validation, and approval of the Information Technology Center. If approved, the ITC will select the LCD monitor that complies with the total cost of ownership model, the compatibility with the hardware configurations, performance, stability, availability of supplier’s technical staff representative to provide service and support, repair and maintenance, replacement parts and warranty.
  4. The purchase of LCD monitors is subject to the usual purchasing policies and procedures and is chargeable against the budget of the requesting office/department/unit.
