Guidelines on Requests for Purchase of DVD Writers
The President’s Council, in its meeting on August 22, 2008, approved the purchase of DVD writers, subject to the following:
- Offices/Departments/Units may request for the purchase of an internal DVD writer with the following specifications:

ReWrite Speed: 32x (CD) / 6x (DVD-RW) / 8x (DVD+RW) / 14x (DVD-RAM)
Access Time : 140 ms (DVD), 150 ms (CD)
Buffer Size : 2MB
Supported CD Formats : CD-DA (audio), Video CD, CD Text, CD-ROM, CD-I, Photo CD, CD-ROM XA, Mixed-mode CD, CD Extra
Color : Depends on the color of computer system unit
Interfaces : 1 x Audio out, 1 x IDE/ATAPI – 40 pin IDC or 1 x Serial ATA-150 – 7 pin Serial ATA, 1 x Headphones, Mini-phone stereo 3.5 mm

- The DVD writer is for the communal use of all the members of the Department/Unit.
- By default, the DVD writer will be installed in the computer unit of the Department Chairperson/Unit Head. He/She consequently becomes the custodian of the DVD writer. However, he/she may choose to designate the Department/Office Secretary as custodian of the DVD writer instead.
- Requests for the purchase of a DVD writer with non-standard specifications should be accompanied by a written justification attached to the Materials Requisition Form (MRF). Such requests are subject to the evaluation, validation, and approval of the Information Technology Center.
- The purchase of a DVD writer is subject to the usual purchasing policies and procedures and is chargeable against the budget of the requesting office/department/unit.
