Martin Ernesto Kalaw is an Associate Professor of the Mechanical Engineering Department in the Gokongwei College of Engineering at De La Salle University (DLSU), Manila, Philippines. He obtained his BSME, MSME, and PhD-ME at De La Salle University, Manila. His doctoral studies were on geopolymer materials derived from industrial wastes where part of the research laboratory work was conducted at the International Development Engineering (IDE) of the Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT), Japan and the Ho Chi Minh University of Technology (HCMUT), Vietnam. Aside from geopolymer materials and engineering materials in general, his research interests are thermofluid sciences and HVAC&R systems. Dr. Kalaw has had special training in geopolymer composition and microstructure analysis at the IDE, Tokyo Institute of Technology, heat transfer systems and modeling at the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Mecanique et d’Aerotechnique (ENSMA), Poitiers, France and on biomechanics at the University of Pisa, Italy. He has published papers in Scopus journals, presented papers in the ASEAN region thru the AUN/SEED-Net and thru the ASHRAE Region XIII, and co-authored a book “Chronicles of Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning in Tropical Philippines: The Cold Facts” published by DLSU Publishing for the ASHRAE Philippine Chapter. Dr. Kalaw is one of the pioneer members and current secretary of the Philippine Branch of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). He is the co-chair of the Student Activities Committee of the ASHRAE Philippine Chapter of which he is a member and DLSU Student Branch Adviser since 2007. He is also a lifetime member of the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME).
