Associate Professor
Educational Background
PhD in Civil Engineering
University of Manitoba
Dr. Irene Olivia Ubay-Anongphouth is an Associate Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of the Gokongwei College of Engineering at De La Salle University Manila, Philippines. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a Specialization in Structural Engineering in 2002 from De La Salle University. She finished her Master of Engineering Degree in Civil Engineering in 2007, majoring in Structural Engineering from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, under full scholarship from the ASEAN University Network/Southeast Asia Engineering Education Development Network. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering, majoring in Geotechnical Engineering, in 2021 from the University of Manitoba in Canada under a faculty development program grant for graduate studies, the Mme. Maillefer Study Program.
She is involved in research programs such as the Geotechnical Mapping of Metro Manila Subsoil (GEMMMS) Project and the Dam Risk Management Decision Support Tool (DARMA). Initiated by the faculty members of the Geotechnical Engineering Division under the Department of Civil Engineering of De La Salle University in collaboration with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) for the 3D Philippines Program and the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) for the DARMA Project, these projects are funded by the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD).
Dr. Ubay-Anongphouth’s research interests include but are not limited to waste utilization and sustainable geomaterials, geotechnical material characterization and numerical modeling, slope stability, soil anisotropy, time-dependent soil behavior, geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring, and geotechnical profiling and mapping.
