MARIQUIT M. DELOS REYES, PhD

Dr. Mariquit De Los Reyes is an associate professor of Biology at the De La Salle University (DLSU). She received her PhD in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering from the University of Maryland, USA, and her MS and BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of the Philippines Diliman. Being both a licensed chemical engineer and a biology enthusiast, most of her early researches focused on understanding the connections between biological and engineering principles in cell culture. As a former visiting researcher at the School of Chemical Engineering, Cornell University, New York, USA, and at the Chemical Engineering Department, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, she did works on the development of cultivation strategies to evaluate protein expression in recombinant mammalian and microbial cells cultivated in three-dimensional culture systems. Her current research interests include natural products and drug discovery, specifically, the use of secondary metabolites with potential bioactive properties against human cancer cells. In addition, she has on-going collaborative researches in plant biomimetics and in tissue engineering. She has published her research data in Scopus-indexed journals. Dr. De Los Reyes was a recipient of the Most Outstanding Teacher Award from De La Salle Canlubang (DLSC) and was chosen as a Biology Trainer Exemplar during the National Training of Trainers under the CHED Newton Agham Program. She also helped redesign the DLSC Lasallian curriculum as a Chief Learning Officer appointed by the De La Salle Philippines (DLSP). She was a DLSU research fellow and was the laboratory manager for the new Imaging and Cell Culture Laboratory (iCELL), Central Instrumentation Facility, DLSU-Laguna. Currently, she is the Chair of the Department of Biology, DLSU. She is an active member of the Philippine Society for Cell Biology (PSCB) and a DLSU representative to the Metro Manila Health Research and Development Consortium (MMHRDC). She is also a volunteer Sunday school teacher at the Christ’s Commission Fellowship (CCF).
