MARY JANE C. FLORES, PhD

Dr. Mary Jane Cruz-Flores is currently an Associate Professor of the Department of Biology, College of Science at De La Salle University and the Vice-President of Biology Teachers’ Association (BIOTA) DLSU Chapter. She received her Ph.D. in Biology, M.S. in Biology, and B.S. in Biology degrees from De La Salle University. She served the Department of Biology as Chairperson for six (6) years, from 2015-2021. Her research work focuses on Parasitology, particularly on zoonotic infections, tick taxonomy and control, vector ecology and management, neglected tropical diseases such as soil-transmitted helminthiases, paragonimiasis and schistosomiasis. Dr. Flores served as the President of the Philippine Society of Parasitology from 2015-2019.  De La Salle University recognized her as the 2021 St. Benilde Romancon Pillar of Lasallian Excellence Awardee in Teaching and the St. Jaime Hilario Pillar of Lasallian Excellence Awardee in Community Engagement in 2016. She was also awarded as the 2021 over-all winner of the DLSU Student Search for Outstanding Teachers Award. Dr. Flores has been active as a practitioner and trainor of Service-Learning in the university with DLSU chosen by the UNISERVITATE as the Service-Learning Regional Hub for Asia and Oceania. Her community engagement is highlighted by the medical missions she organized with emphasis on deworming school children and educating them on the importance of proper hygiene to control the spread of parasitic infections.
