JAVIER-MARTINEZ, DOROTHY P.

Dr. Dorothy P. Javier-Martinez, a married religious educator, is currently an assistant professor at De La Salle University, Manila teaching Theology and Religious Education Courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs. She served as the Graduate Studies Program Coordinator of the Theology and Religious Education Department from 2016-2019, and is currently the coordinator of the Certificate in Teaching Religion Program. She finished her Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Values Education at the Philippine Normal University, cum laude (2003), MA in Religious Education at the University of the Immaculate Conception, Davao City (2008), and Doctor of Education major in Religious Education and Values Education at De La Salle University, Manila (2016). 

For three years, 2015, 2016, and 2019, she received the third place national award in essay writing from the Commission on the Filipino Language (Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino- KWF) Gawad KWF sa Sanaysay for her essays, “Sa Gitna ng mga Unos at Pagsubok ng Bayang Pilipinas, Nananatiling Susi ng Pambansang Kaunlaran ang Wikang Filipino,” “Pananahimik at Wikang Filipino: Isang Pagsasakultura ng Pananampalataya,” and “Karunungan, Hiwaga, at Espiritwalidad ng Paglilinang ng Katutubong Wika.” She is also one of the recipients of the DLSU College of Liberal Arts Research and Advanced Studies and BNSCWC (Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center) Mini-Grants for Creative Writing, sanaysay category in A.Y. 2013-2014. 

She is the author of the book, “Pahingalay Isang Mabathalang Pag-aaral ng Pananahimik, at Maka-Filipinong Paraan ng Pagninilay,” (Claretian Communications Foundation, Inc., 2022). 

Her research interest involves: inculturated spirituality, values education, silence and Filipino language. She loves creative writing in Filipino, as well as drawing and painting. She serves as liturgical minister both on campus and in her home parish. Pre-pandemic, she enjoys being with the children during Sunday school catechism. She also finds joy in facilitating recollections. 

She adheres to the Lasallian motto: “Domine Opus Tuum” for every task is the Lord’s work – and everything is for the love of the God and the good of the people entrusted to our care.
