Dr. Ona is an associate professor of Political Science and Development Studies at De La Salle University. He is also the chairperson of the department and the former associate dean for research and advanced studies of the College of Computer Studies, DLSU.

Dr. Ona also served as a technical consultant to various government agencies like the Commission on Information and, Communications Technology (CICT), the Department of Science and Technology-ICTO, the Commission on Higher Education, and the Department of Information and Communications Technology. In 2019, Dr. Ona was appointed as a consultant of the UN-Asia Pacific Center for ICT for Development (APCICT) on Data Governance and Interoperability. He also completed his PhD summer internship at the Center for Technology in Government, State University of New York-Albany, USA.

Dr. Ona is a senior fellow of the Philippine Public Safety College and a non-resident fellow of the Stratbase-Albert Del Rosario Institute. He is also a contributor to the online periodicals, “The Geopolitics” and “Analyzing War”, where he has written several articles on national defense, information warfare, and human security.
