Ronald Baytan is full professor of literature at De La Salle University where he teaches Philippine literature, LGBTQIA+ studies, and creative writing. He holds a Ph.D. in English Studies from the University of the Philippines Diliman. He is one of the pioneers of LGBTQIA+ studies and teaching in the Philippines. He was the first to teach Gay and Lesbian Literature at a Catholic university in the Philippines in 1995. Most of his recent critical works focus on cinema, specifically queer/gay films in the country. He is also interested in the study of auto/biographical narratives and Chinese identities vis-à-vis queerness. A Palanca winner, he is the author of The Queen Sings the Blues: Poems, 1992 -2002 (Anvil, 2007) and The Queen Lives Alone: Personal Essays (UP Press, 2012). He is the editor of Lit Matters: A Manual for Teaching Philippine Literature (Anvil, 2014).
