The poet, fictionist, essayist, playwright, translator, and literary scholar John Iremil Teodoro is a professor of creative writing, literature, and art appreciation at De La Salle University (DLSU). He is an Associate for Regional Literature of DLSU’s Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center. He hails from San Jose de Buenavista, Antique in Panay Island, central Philippines. He is a multi-awarded writer in Kinaray-a, Filipino, Hiligaynon, and English. He received awards from the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Philippine Panorama Literary Contest, HomeLife Poetry Contest, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines. He is a recipient of the SEAWRITE (Southeast Asian Writers) Award in 2019 from the Kingdom of Thailand. He is the author of more than 20 books. Teodoro is also a scholar of Visayan Literature and have edited several anthologies of West Visayan literature. He is presently the secretary general of Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL or the Writers Union of the Philippines). He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of San Agustin in Iloilo City, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and a Doctor of Philosophy in Literature from DLSU.
