Ivar began his career teaching at the University of the Philippines College of Music, followed by a tenure as a professor of humanities at the U.P. Los Baños. Ivar pursued his doctoral studies at the University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music under the Fulbright scholarship program. While at the Bolton Guitar Studies program, Ivar had the rare opportunity to study closely under Grammy-award winners David Russell, and Sergio and Odair Assad. Ivar maintains an active concert career and has been featured by The Tucson Cathedral Concert Series, The Arizona Friends of Chamber Music, The Manila Symphony Orchestra, DLSU Art in Action, San Beda Alabang, U.P. Los Baños, and recently, The Cultural Center of The Philippines Special Concert Series. Ivar returned to the Philippines in 2018 and is a professor at the PWU School of Music and an associate professorial lecturer at the De La Salle University in Manila. As part of his community outreach, Ivar was a mentor at CCP’s Kabataang Gitarista and a Master Teacher at the Philippine High School for the Arts from 2020-2024.
