Outcome-Based Education and AUN-QA Quality Culture in Practice
In Manila 2019, we bring together speakers from ASEAN, China, Japan, Europe, and Latin America to address the most pressing questions of practice: how to transition from input-based teaching to outcomes-based learning (and help colleagues do so), how to effectively use technology and Learning Management Systems, how to foster deep and active links with stakeholders – above all, how to generate a quality culture that is not just institutional and compliance-based, but principles-based and more deeply ingrained.
In previous AUN-QA International Conferences, we explored the global pressures upon higher education: the need to prepare graduates for Industry 4.0, to assure quality given the rising costs of obtaining degrees, and to enhance mobility by developing a regional basis for mutual recognition. Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) is at the core of most quality assurance frameworks, at least in theory, but AUN-QA’s experience of programme assessment since 2007 has revealed a dearth of convincing applications in our classrooms and laboratories. Claims that programmes are “outcomes-based” often overstate the reality of our expected
outcomes, assessments, and especially learning strategies. All these make it more difficult to assure quality and ensure
continuous improvement within our curricula, departments, and faculty.

Please be informed that your abstract received a consensus of opinion among our Academic Committee members to be delivered as “Oral Presentation” / “Poster Presentation”. Following this, you are suggested to register and make the fee payment within the given period of time.
For Oral Presentation, our requirements are as follows:
- PC (Windows 10, Microsoft Office 2016, Adobe Reader) will be set up at the conference venue and we would like to please ask for your kind collaboration in not connecting any device other than the one provided.
- The presenters are suggested to prepare their files ready for use on the computer provided. Please contact the Secretariat in advance.
- Presentation time 15 minutes, Q & A 5 minutes (please refer to the presentation period on the website of the Conference Program page).
For Poster Presentation, our requirements are as follows:
- Poster size (width 80 cm. * height 120 cm.)
- Poster to be put up on the board provided on 26th March 2018 before 8.00 a.m.
