Educational Background
Agnes M. Brazal is Full Professor of Theology at the De la Salle University, Manila, and member of the Vatican Study Group 2 on Listening to the Cry of the Poor and the Earth for the Synod on Synodality. She is author of two books, namely Liberation-Postcolonial Ethics in the Philippines (2019) and Toward an Intercultural Church (2015), and co-editor of ten anthologies that include 500 Years of Christianity and the Global Filipino/a (2024) and Toward a Bai Theology (2023). She was recipient of a number of research awards: 2003 Winner of Institute of Missiology, Missio, Aachen international academic essay contest on Contextual Theology and Philosophy, 2007 finalist, National Book Award for Theology and Religion for Body and Sexuality, 3rd place, 2017 Catholic Press Association Book Award, USA, for Living with(out) Borders, and honoree for 2023 Miguel Febres Cordero Lasallian Pillars of Excellence Research Awards. She has obtained fellowships at Boston College, Catholic University of Louvain, De Paul University, Chicago and St. John’s University, New York. She is a founding member and past President of the Catholic Theological Society of the Philippines (DaKaTeo) and the first Coordinator of the Ecclesia of Women in Asia. She obtained her STL/MA and STD/PhD in Theology at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium.
