SDRC-PSPI Study Conducts Didactics Seminar for Midwives
 The De La Salle University Social Development Research Center (DLSU- SDRC), in collaboration with the Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital, held a Didactics Seminar at the Richville Hotel in Mandaluyong on February 10, 2015. Entitled “Skills Training Course in Progestin Only Subdermal Implant, Insertion, Removal and Replacement,” the seminar was facilitated by Dr. Esmeraldo Ilem, Director for Family Planning of the Fabella Memorial Hospital, and was attended by participant midwives representing several municipalities of Sta. Rosa in Laguna and in Rizal Province. The said midwives serve as initial participants in DLSU-SDRC’s action research “Developing Competencies of Middle Level Health Workers and Maximizing Their Roles on Task-Sharing in the Philippines.” The study is being conducted under the aegis of the Population Services Pilipinas, Incorporated (PSPI), and aims to document the competency of midwives as providers of contraceptive implants through a series of observation, documentation, and other research-related activities.
Consequential of the Didactics activity at the Richville Hotel was a hands- on practicum held on February 13, 2015 at the Community Health Office of Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Dr. Ilem spearheaded the course and was assisted by Obstetrics and Gynecological Unit Dr. Madeleine Olalia, a resident at Fabella Hospital.
