Research @ DLSU 2012 Acknowledges Contribution of SDRC

The role played by the Social Development Research Center in the history of research at DLSU was emphasized in presentations made during the “Research @ DLSU 2012” Centennial Plenary Lectures held on February 15, 2012 at the Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium. Focusing on the theme “Remembering the Past, Living the Present, Creating the Future,” the Center was mentioned in the lecture delivered by University Fellow Dr. Exaltacion Lamberte entitled “Crafting Research System and Roadmap: CLA Yesterday, Today, and in the Coming Years” as the first research center established at DLSU, simultaneously with the school’s shift from college to university. As one of the four centers that have served the College of Liberal Arts, she cited the continuous support it has received from the University in terms of facilitating access to funding from external organizatio ns and providing “heroic,” competent faculty researchers, while at the same time seeking for stronger assistance in terms of infrastructure (as it has relocated a total of seven times since its beginnings in 1979).
University Fellow Dr. Tereso Tullao, Jr., Director of the Angelo King Institute for Economics Research and Development (AKI-ERD), in his presentation entitled “Development of Research Culture in Business and Economics at De La Salle University: The Roles of Individuals, Institutions and Incentives,” likewise cited the Integrated Research Center (IRC) (from which the SDRC evolved) as being an outcome of the Office of then Vice President for Development and Research Br. Paul Hebert, FSC. Among the responsibilities of Br. Paul’s office at that time was the supervision of research-oriented activities within the institution, including the development of student research to meet thesis requirements, and the coordination of research training seminars on research methodology and management. Dr. Tullao also mentioned several outstanding SDRC researchers who have been faculty members of the College of Business and Economics, including himself, former IR C Director Rosemary Aquino-Fernholz, Rolando Galano, Dr. Divina Edralin, and Dr. Benito Teehankee.
