Maraan’s Better Homes and Other Fictions Launched at Ariston Estrada
Better Homes and Other Fictions, a volume of collected prose by SDRC Coordinator for Research Dissemination and Publications Connie J. Maraan, was launched on February 29, 2012 at the Ariston Estrada Seminar Room. Sponsored by the Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center and the University of Santo Tomas Publishing House in cooperation with the DLSU Literature Circle, the double book launch also featured the poetry collection of Literature Department faculty member Dinah Roma Sianturi entitled Geographies of Light.
Providing the opening remarks was USTPH Publisher Cristina Pantoja Hidalgo, who mentioned having written a blurb for Maraan’s first book Transient: Stories 1977-1994 published by the DLSU Press. She also cited the short story “Stones” which is included in Better Homes and was also selected for inclusion in The Children’s Hour, an anthology edited by Hidalgo in 2008.
Both authors were introduced by Literature Department Vice Chair Vicente Garcia Groyon, after which they gave their responses and read selected pieces from their new books.
The two books are included among the 400 titles released by UST as part of its quadricentennial celebration.
