New SDRC Director Appointed for AY2013-2014
Dr. Melvin A. Jabar is an associate professor of the Department of Behavioral Sciences of the DLSU College of Liberal Arts. He obtained his Ph.D. in Asia Pacific Studies from Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan.
His research interests are in intercultural marriages, educational sociology, health social science, evidence-based policy intervention, and parental involvement. His recent publications include “Educational Challenges of a Japanese-Filipino Child in a Japanese Classroom” which appeared in the Asia-Pacific Education Researcher, and “Filipino Mothers’ Involvement in Children’s Education: Experiences and Challenges, which is included in B. Jones & R. Silver (Eds.)’s Teachers Helping Teachers 2010 Proceedings. He has been a co-investigator in the study “The Teen Health Quarter (THQ) and the Emerging Needs of Youth of the 21st Century” for the UNFPA through the Foundation for Adolescent Development (FAD), and was part of the research teams for the SDRC studies “Impact of Decentralization on Drug Procurement” for the World Health Organization-Philippine Office and “Assessment and Institutionalization of the Client Feedback Monitoring System of the Philippine Bureau of Food and Drugs (Philippine Bureau of Food and Drugs)” and “Towards Policy-relevant Science and Scientifically Informed Policy: Political Economy of the Use of Knowledge and Research Evidence in Urban Resilience Interventions in the Philippines.”
