Professional Profile:
I’m a University Fellow and a Full Professor of the Department of Chemistry, College of Science at De La Salle University and currently the Scientific Director of the DLSU Central Instrumentation Facility in DLSU-Laguna and the Lab Manager of the NMR.
I hold the Br. Goslin Camillus FSC Professorial Chair in Life Sciences & the Don Jose Cojuangco Professorial Chair in Chemistry in 2019-2023. I was the former Director of COS Research and Advanced Studies.
My BS Chemistry for Teachers was earned at the Philippine Normal University, Magna cum Laude, and my MSc Chemistry at DLSU, graduating with High Academic Distinction. I obtained my Doctor of Science in Chemistry degree (2002) at Tohoku University, Japan, and went to the University of California-Irvine for a post-doctoral fellowship in polymers. I joined the semiconductor industry at Intel followed by a stint at NXP Semiconductors for an R&D job before joining the Chemistry Department of De La Salle University-Manila in 2009.
I received the 2007 TWAS Prize for Young Scientists in the Philippines; the 2007 NAST Outstanding Young Scientist Award; the 2010 NRCP Research Achievement Award; the 2017 Newton-Agham Leaders in Innovation Fellowship; and the 2023 Gregorio Y. Zara Award for Basic Science Research by the PhilAAST. I held various Academic Professorial Chairs at DLSU. I also served as a visiting professor at Osaka University.
I’m currently Editor-in-chief of Kimika, the Journal of the Philippine Chemistry Society. My research interests include organometallics, polymers, biocomposites, nanomaterials, food chemistry, and science education.
