Engr. Joseph Rey H. Sta. Agueda

Assistant Professor

Educational Background

PhD in Chemical Engineering – Candidate
De La Salle University

Joseph Rey H. Sta. Agueda is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Manufacturing Engineering and Management, at De La Salle University. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from De La Salle University. He obtained his M.Sc. in Manufacturing Engineering in 2013 and His B.Sc. in Manufacturing Engineering and Management in 2005 both from De La Salle University. He was awarded a full scholarship by the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippines Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) for the duration of his Master’s degree. He is currently active in the following research areas: additive manufacturing, biomaterials development, tissue engineering, and wound healing technologies. He did extensive training in polymer studies and additive manufacturing at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, USA, under DOST sponsorship. He is currently a collaborator in multiple DOST-PCHRD-funded projects and is the Project Leader for “SMIDERM: Smart Multifunctional and Indigenous Dressings sterilized using the Electron Beam as Novel wound Repair Matrices – Phase I. Biomedical Device Development and Characterization” and “ECM/Cellulose/Propolis Patch (ECPatch): Development of an all-natural wound dressing via additive manufacturing technologies”. He is also set to be Program Leader for AlPaS “Breaking free from diabetic wounds one patient at a time”: A Comprehensive Approach to Repairing Diabetic Ulcers” and its constituent projects: (1) Project Alamin (Know): Diabetic Imaging and Monitoring of Wound Healing Development, (2) Project Pawiin (Relieve): in situ-Forming Hydrogel Functionalized with Plant Extracts for the Advanced Treatment of Diabetic Foot Ulcers, and Project Sanggain (Protect): Activated Carbon/Bee Products/Chitosan Wound Dressing Composite for Enhanced Diabetic Wound Healing and Odor Management which will commence in 2025.
