The DITO Manager is the overall head of the office. Among his functions are the following:

(1) Represents the University in the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) network organized by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), and ensures that the DITO is compliant with the ITSO Franchise Manual;

(2) Coordinates DITO activities, which include patent searching and drafting, trademark registration, and technology commercialization;

(3) Directs and monitors University activities involving intellectual property (IP), including IP audits and IP awareness campaigns;

(4) Recommends the hiring of consultants and staff for the office, and coordinate their tasks;

(5) Advises faculty and students on all technology commercialization matters, and assist them in the commercialization of their inventions;

(6) Coordinates with the Director of the DLSU Intellectual Property Office (DIPO) and Animo Labs (Business Incubator of DLSU) for the possible commercialization of University IP assets;

(7) Represents the University in technology commercialization organizations and associations; (8) Manages office finances, including budget and expenses.

CHRISTOPHER E. CRUZ is currently the University Legal Counsel, Director of the DLSU Intellectual Property Office and Manager of the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) of De La Salle University (DLSU), Manila, Philippines. He is also an Assistant Professor of the Commercial Law Department, Philosophy Department and the College of Law of DLSU where he has been teaching Intellectual Property Law and commercial law subjects, and Philosophy subjects for the last 25 years. He was also the former Vice-Dean of the Ramon V. Del Rosario College of Business and Chairman of the Commercial Law Department. He was also a Court Attorney at the Court of Appeals for 7 years. At present, he is teaching Commercial Law and Intellectual Property Law at the College of Business and the College of Law of DLSU.

He has been invited as resource speaker in numerous seminars and lectures in Intellectual Property Law, Corporate Governance and Ethics, and other Commercial Law topics. He has been attending seminars and conferences both here and abroad on Intellectual Property sponsored by the IPO Philippines, World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO), the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). Just recently in February 2015, he was chosen to be part of the USAID RTI study program where they visited US Technology Transfer Offices in universities like Rutgers University, Johns Hopkins University and University of North Carolina. In 2014, he was accepted on full scholarship to participate in the 11th Teachers’ Colloquium in Geneva, Switzerland. In June 2013, he attended the Intellectual Property and Technology Commercialization Program at the University of California, Davis, USA. He also attended similar trainings in the Japan Patent Office (2010) and Korea Intellectual Property Office (2013). In 2011, he successfully passed the Patent Agents Qualifying Exam (PAQE) conducted by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines and trained with the European Patent Office patent experts. He has also published papers on commercial law and intellectual property in journals and has contributed articles in the Manila Bulletin.

tty. Cruz obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy in DLSU and his Bachelor of Laws degree in San Beda College, Manila. He also earned his Master in Philosophical Research degree in DLSU. He is currently finishing his Phd studies in Philosophy also at DLSU.
