Research on algae in the perspectives of life cycle assessment, decision analysis, impacts, and molecular dynamics were presented in the recent Asia-Pacific Conference on Algal Biotechnology (APCAB). The conference was held from November 15 to 18 at the Century Park Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand with the theme “Algae for Food, Feed, Fuel and Beyond”.
Held every three years, the APCAB is organized by the Asia-Pacific Society of Applied Phycology (APSAP). The APSAP is an organization founded in 1992 dedicated to research on macroalgae and microalgae studies. Its members consist of renowned scientists from the Asia-Pacific region and around the world.
A research team comprising of Dr. Alvin Culaba, Dr. Melanie David, Dr. Al Rey Villagracia, Dr. Emelina Mandia, Dr. Joaquin Moreno. Mr. Robby Manrique, Mr. Ivan Gue, and Mr. Andres Mayol were able to present the current research of the Algae BIG Hub to the conference. These studies are the investigation of carbon dioxide permeation in microalgae based on the field of molecular dynamics, a multi criteria approach in the design of an efficient photobioreactor system, the impact of planktonic microalgae in the Carmona river to the algal studies of the Philippines, and the life cycle assessment of algal biodiesel production in the
