Innovation Workshop

The Innovation Workshop heralded the introduction of Algae BIG Hub to the current stakeholders of the hub, with the help of USAID STRIDE. It is also in this workshop that the algae industries and the academic partners were able to exchange ideas on resolving the current issues in algae production. Held in DLSU-STC, the workshop was attended by representatives from academic universities, industries, and government agencies.

Focus Group Discussion

Right after the Innovation Workshop, a round table discussion was held between key industry partners and academic institutions. Target individuals were invited to join in the discussion on the creation of an algal biotechnology innovation ecosystem. The output of the discussion is the general guideline and detailed plans on how to establish the Algae BIG Hub.

Business Sustainability Innovation Workshop

After a series of talks between the industry and the academic institutions, the Business Sustainability Workshop was held. This workshop helped pave the way for the creation of the ABIGHub by further fortifying the establishment of the hub. During the workshop, the framework of ABIGHub was presented. By the end of the workshop, all of the stakeholders were able to sign a “Commitment of Support” in show of their endorsement for the establishment of the Algae BIG Hub.

Algae Innovation Forum

The Algae Innovation Forum is a lecture series held in De La Salle University. The forum focuses on providing technical knowledge to individuals who wish to learn the proper techniques in microalgae cultivation. In its first series, discussions focused on the use of photobioreactors, particularly on accordion and xylophone-based designs, for the cultivation of microalgae. Discussions also focused on the proper filtration and sterilization needed for preparation of cultivation setup for microalgae. The lecture series is organized by the Microalgae Systematic and Applied Phycology Research Unit (MSAPRU) of De La Salle University.
