Dr. Alellie B. Sobreviñas is an Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for Research and Advanced Studies at the School of Economics of De La Salle University (DLSU)-Manila in the Philippines. She previously worked with the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) International Research Network, where she had the opportunity to participate in various projects, in collaboration with international, local and development partners.

She chairs the SOE’s Professional Learning Community (PLC) on Statistics. She has handled courses on economic development, economic statistics, methods of research, development policy research, development issues in microeconomics, development economics, introduction to microeconomics, managerial economics, poverty economics and thesis advising/mentoring. She served as a Guest Lecturer for the “International Migration and Development” sub-unit (2018) and “Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS)” sub-unit (2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023) offered to Advanced Masters student of the Institute of Development Policy (IOB), University of Antwerp (Belgium).

She is an Outreach Team (Executive Team) member of the Communitor (Community of Practice), a network of experts in Community-based Monitoring and Citizen Science (CMCS) from across the globe which aims to foster knowledge exchange and meaningful partnerships. She served as a Scholar-in-Residence at IOB-University of Antwerp from September to November 2022. She is a member of the SOE Research Council and SOE Academic Council, co-chaired the DLSU Research Congress 2020 and currently co-chairs the DLSU Research Congress 2023, which is the flagship research conference of the University.

Research Interest

Dr. Sobreviñas current research interests focus on poverty, community-based monitoring, international migration, impact evaluation and development economics, in general. One of her more recently completed work examined chronic and transient poverty using Community-Based monitoring System (CBMS) data. She is also currently working on a study that examines how international labor migration affects children’s educational outcomes and a research that examines and synthesizes the different uses and applications of community-based monitoring and citizen science initiatives in Asia through a systematic review.
