  • How long does it take for my e-mail account to get activated?

Your e-mail account is activated about two hours after the activation of your My.Lasalle portal account.

  • Is there a standardized format for My.LaSalle e-mail addresses?

Yes, and there are two acceptable formats: name-based ([email protected]) and id-number based (id [email protected]).

Using your My.LaSalle e-mail

  • What is the storage capacity of a My.Lasalle e-mail account?

E-mail quotas are implemented according to user classification. Quota restriction is necessary to avoid consuming all of the hard disk space in the server.

    USER CLASSIFICATION

    WARNING THRESHOLD

When your mailbox reaches this size, you will be given a warning that your mailbox is almost full. You can still send/receive emails at this state. However, you are encouraged to archive/delete old e-mails to free up space and avoid reaching the maximum storage limit.

    MAXIMUM LIMIT

This is the maximum storage size of your mailbox. You can no longer send/receive e-mails once it reaches this capacity.

    Faculty/Administrator 195 MB 200 MB
    Student 15 MB 20 MB
    Staff 95 MB 100 MB

Please remember that the server is a shared University resource. Use this facility prudently.

  • Why do we need to maintain mailbox quota?

Server space is finite and the more space used, the more difficult backup processes become. It is therefore necessary to restrict mail box space allocations. Users can assist by undertaking regular maintenance.

System messages tell users when the space used is getting near the limit but please don’t wait for the warning messages before you manage your mailbox. Regular housekeeping can ensure that you do not run out of space. If you exceeded your allotted size limit, your mailbox will be closed. When your mailbox is closed, you can no longer send or receive any email.

To help you avoid this, ITC Help Desk programmed short tutorials about maintaining your mailbox quota. In this tutorial, you will learn how to check your current mailbox size, take simple steps to trim the size of your mailbox down, and how to use Personal Folders or Archiving.

  • How many files can I send/receive via e-mail?

You can send/receive messages of up to 4MB in size including the attachment/s.

  • What types of files can I send/receive via e-mail?

    .exe .hta .sh .vbs
    .com .jse .shb .mp*
    .vxd .lnk .asd .dot
    .scr|pif .dll .wsf
    .bat .js shs

Otherwise, you will not be able to send/receive that e-mail.

  • How many recipients can I put in each e-mail I send?

If you are sending an e-mail to many users, make sure that your e-mail recipients are not more than 100 in number. Otherwise you will not be able to send that e-mail.

  • Why is my account disabled?

If you are not a regular user of My.LaSalle e-mail, your account may have been disabled after 30 days of inactivity. This is done to ensure the security of your e-mail account. All you need to do to activate your My.LaSalle e-mail account is update your password. After two hours, it should be active again.

If you are not sure whether your My.LaSalle e-mail account is still active, just log in to your My.LaSalle portal account and [LOG IN] to your My.LaSalle email account. If you still cannot access your My.LaSalle email account after logging in using your My.LaSalle portal account username and password, just reactivate your My.LaSalle email account by updating your My.LaSalle portal account password.

What are the policies on MLS portal account retention/extension?

  • How do I share a calendar in a public folder?

    1. Set up a public folder.

    2. If you create a new calendar folder instead of copying an existing calendar folder, be sure to select “Appointment Items” as the type of folder you want to create.

    3. Add meetings and events to the calendar.

    4. The calendar will now be available to everybody whom you granted permission.

    5. Send an e-mail message to those whom you granted permission, containing the shortcut to the public folder.

If you set up your calendar for delegate access or you are a delegate, open a calendar from the network instead of your local machine to eliminate the chance of appointment conflicts. To open a calendar from the network, click Options on the Tools menu, click Calendar Options, and then clear the “always use local calendar” check box.

NOTE: To share a schedule with a group, you must have permission to read items.
