Research Interest

Dr. Cabuay’s research interests revolve around economic development, particularly international migration and remittances, education, gender equality, health, and labor, where he specializes in applied microeconometrics and impact evaluation. Currently, he is working on a variety of studies, one of which is an impact evaluation on how in-kind transfers may affect physical mobility during the pandemic. One study he is working on looks at the potential economic and health impacts of non-combusted tobacco alternatives on the cost of illness of tobacco. He is also managing a project and conducting a study on the context-specific barriers to female access to decent work which combines quantitative and qualitative methods. He is also part of teams in DLSU-AKI that are developing a macroeconometric model of the Philippine economy, and investigating the drivers of outward-orientation of Philippine conglomerates. Lastly, he is extending one of his dissertation essays, looking at the spatial spillovers of migration on labor market outcomes.
